Project TELL develops students' information literacy skills, including both traditional
communication literacy and network literacy, through the effective use of technology.
This includes an early information literacy training model that merges reading/writing
assessments with best practice instructions/strategies that included the use of technology
(Kids Media Magic) a multi-media program for K-3rd grade. Over the next three years we
will have trained 100% of K-3rd grade teachers, Title I, and special education teachers
on the early Information Literacy training model. Michigan Technological University (MTU)
developed a course on Electronic Communication Across the Curriculum for Project TELL.
The purpose of the course is to assist teachers in developing online courses and
instructional units that effectively use Web tools, Internet tools and other advanced
media. This includes a Student Technology Leadership course offered concurrently at MTU.
This year an 11 member team with MTU developed the Northwoods MOO, an online conferencing
environment suitable for holding professional development series and online K-12 classroom
activities with students. The focus of this MOO is to support Information Literacy Skill
Development for teachers and students. This year training was provided to over 200 high
school teachers on Internet Use and Abuse.
