Project TELL emphasizes a process of systematic reform using leadership teams made up of educators, community members, and students to create schools that effectively integrate technology into the K-12 curriculum in ways that improve all students' higher-level thinking skills. The strength of our process is its emphasis on leadership development throughout the school system at multiple levels.

The five basic components of the project include:

  1. LEADERSHIP
"Breaking the Mold: A New Vision for Student Achievement" is an innovative leadership development program brings together teachers, students, administrators, support staff, and community members in project-based action learning teams. The teams work on technology-rich projects designed to enhance student achievement. Breaking the Mold rests on the notion that leadership is best pursued in the midst of real, relevant, and necessary work.

  2. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
This program promotes comprehensive reform through effective professional development by providing the level of support necessary to effectively use technology to improve the curriculum and classroom instruction in 100% of our core academic K-12 classrooms.

  3. TECHNOLOGY LITERACY
This project supports learning teams made up of teachers and community members to develop instructional units that improve student learning through the effective use of technology.

  4. INFORMATION LITERACY
This project develops students' information literacy skills, including both traditional communication literacy and network literacy, through the effective use of technology.

  5. PRODUCTION/MEDIA LITERACY
This project develops students' ability to become producers of information through the use of socio-dramatic instruction and effective use of technology, including multi-media programs, telecommunications, and interactive video conferencing.

LESSON PLANS

Also included on this Web site is an area dedicated to the sharing of lesson plans. Information for teachers, and also parents and community members is available. We include the lesson plans on this site to make more information and activities available to the often geographically isolated K-12 teachers in the Upper Peninsula, and also to share with both parents and community members the exciting projects and lessons taking place in area schools.

This project is made possible through a grant from the Michigan Department of Education and funds provided through a Technology Challenge Innovation Grant totaling $1,737,940 from the U.S. Department of Education and 49% of total costs from contributions from school districts and business/industry partners in the Central Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The project is part of Project TELL -- Technology in Education through Leadership and Literacy.
