"The basic paradigm shift is from an educational emphasis on
people as recipients of information and knowledge to an emphasis on people as
participants in the creation of information and knowledge. In a knowledge-based
society and economy, intellectual capital is the means of production; its
distribution is in large part of function of how we are educated. The
overarching choice we face nationally and globally is to decide what proportion
of people will experience a level and kind of education that will enable them to
participate as producers of knowledge as well as its consumers." (Dr. Beverly
Hunter, Educational Technologies, 1997)
Project TELL will also help all students learn to become effective producers of
information by involving students in projects where they learn to present information
through high level digital video projects, multi-media presentations and interactive
video conferences. We will set up a multi-media production center in each of the 129
schools involved in this consortium. Students from K-12th grade will learn how to
become effective producers of information including both the technical skills of using this
simple but powerful technology. They will also learn the art of storytelling from artist-in-school
residencies including writers, play writers, song writers, actors, story tellers and visual artists.
Project TELL develops students' ability to become producers of information
through the use of socio-dramatic instruction and effective use of technology,
including multi-media programs, telecommunications, and interactive video conferencing.
