Project TELL supports learning teams made up of teachers and community members to develop instructional
units that improve student learning through the effective use of technology. These units will also
ensure that students learn the technology skill needed to become productive workers in the 21st century
including: database programs, graphing, statistics and geographic information system technology.
Geographic Information System Technology (GIS) is an integrated system of computer hardware and software
which support analysis and modeling of spatially referenced data. GIS has the potential to become
an important K-12 educational tool. Pilot projects have begun with local teachers who use GIS to
describe, compare and explain patterns found in ecosystems, resources, and human adaptations.
Over the next five years we hope to develop K-12 computer units to teach grade level benchmarks.
